Our History

CardConnect™ was founded in 2006 by Brian P. Shanahan, a successful entrepreneur whose career spans more than two decades in the payment processing industry. Initially founded as Financial Transaction Services, the company changed its name to CardConnect in 2013 to better reflect its primary line of business.

Since its inception, CardConnect has quickly grown to process billions in transactions each year for more than 45,000 businesses across the U.S., ranging from Fortune 500 companies to local coffee shops.

Jeff Shanahan

President
and CEO
Jeff Shanahan joined CardConnect in 2006 following a successful career in management consulting. Originally brought on as COO, Jeff developed all of the operational processes and procedures in place at CardConnect, including the implementation of the company’s application processing tools and residual reporting.

In 2014, Jeff was appointed Chief Executive Officer in addition to his role as President, which he has held since 2008. Along with overseeing CardConnect’s day-to-day activities across all departments, Jeff focuses on the ongoing development of innovative and secure technologies that complement the company’s existing product suite and processing services.

Prior to being CEO and President of CardConnect, Jeff served as President, managing CardConnect and its subsidiaries, including contract management and negotiation with processing partners, operations oversight, investor relations and sales development.

Before joining CardConnect, Jeff was a Management Consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton and Capgemini, where he developed expertise in content management, portal, personalization, mobile, enterprise integration and other technologies. As Management Consultant, Jeff fulfilled project management and business analysis roles in regulatory compliance and case management system implementations. He also has experience with pricing policy development, business case development and SAP process/systems analysis & testing.

Jeff is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Management Science and Information Systems.Close

Chuck Bernicker

Chief Financial Officer
Chuck Bernicker is a payment industry veteran who brings more than a decade of experience in senior management with large companies to CardConnect. He previously served as an Executive Director at Heartland Payment Systems, where he was responsible for identifying new distribution for existing products and services, as well as applying critical analysis to Heartland's core and non-core business units.

Chuck has held senior leadership positions with both Bank of America and TD Bank, concentrating on bank operations related to issuing processing, merchant processing and loss prevention. He also served as a member of the Card Operations and Risk Executive Council for Visa/USA.

Earlier in his career, Chuck was a member of the audit group in Ernst & Young's Philadelphia office, where he became a Certified Public Accountant.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Delaware.Close

Patrick Shanahan

Chief Operating Officer
Patrick Shanahan manages the Operations Team at CardConnect, which focus is on merchant enrollment, customer service, underwriting and risk management. He joined the company in 2008 as the Sales Agent Manager for Aliant Financial Services, then a CardConnect subsidiary. In this role, Patrick focused on managing and servicing the ISO/agent sales team.

In addition to running the Operations Team at CardConnect, Patrick manages many of its key agents and ISO relationships to continually grow the company’s sales channels. Patrick also directs the production and development of the CardConnect website and Agent Portal.

Prior to joining CardConnect, Patrick enjoyed success as a management consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington D.C., working on various IT projects for the federal government.

Patrick holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Pennsylvania State University.Close

Kevin Gainer

Chief Sales Officer
As Chief Sales Officer at CardConnect, Kevin Gainer is responsible for the direction and management of all of the company’s direct sales and strategic partnerships, including sales personnel, market competitiveness, pricing, compensation, distribution and channel strategy. He manages strategic relationships with ISVs, VARs, national associations and agent banks/credit unions.

Prior to joining CardConnect, Kevin served as the CEO of Efficient Payment Processing. In this role, he was responsible for developing the company’s strategic operating plans, as well as creating and monitoring strategies that would ensure the long-term financial viability of the company. In August 2011, Kevin oversaw the strategic merger and acquisition of EPP by CardConnect.

A graduate of John Carroll University, Kevin holds his B.A. in English literature and philosophy.Close

Rob Nathan

Chief Technology Officer
Rob Nathan has more than a decade of technology consulting, operations and business development experience. Prior to entering the payments sector, Rob led business recovery and technology integration projects with PricewaterhouseCoopers and FTI Consulting. In this role, he advised debtors in Chapter 11 restructurings, provided expertise in data analytics and information management and implemented operational improvements for clients across multiple industries.

Since joining CardConnect in 2009, Rob has led the company’s integrated payments initiative and oversees the strategic growth of technology and core product offerings.

Rob is a graduate of Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, where he majored in Computer Information Systems, Business Process Management and Operations Management.

Angelo Grecco

Senior Vice President,
ISO Sales
Angelo Grecco brings more than 13 years of industry experience to CardConnect. He specializes in recruiting and developing successful relationships with top Sales Groups, focused on extending the strong network of Agents, ISOs and Agent Bank relationships that CardConnect already has in place.

Angelo previously was President of Allied Bancard, a subsidiary of CardConnect. Prior to founding Allied Bancard, he worked as VP of Operations at Allied Merchant Services, controlling the day-to-day needs of the company’s Agents and Merchants.

Brian Shanahan

Non-Executive Chairman of the Board
Brian P. Shanahan has more than 20 years of experience in the payment processing industry. Prior to founding CardConnect, he worked with Retail Systems Consulting, Integrated Business Services, The Logix Companies and Transaction Solutions, developing and selling each company’s acquisition client portfolio.

Since 1991, Brian has been involved in debit and credit card processing, ATM placement and processing, ID Authentication services, Agent Bank programs and Gift Card programs where he developed relationships with key executives across the payment processing industry.

As Chairman of CardConnect, Brian provides vision and leadership to the Board regarding rapid growth opportunities, client portfolio development and key strategic partnership relationships with regional banks and other strategic supplier partners to CardConnect.Close

Richard Garman

Board Member
Richard has 28 years of experience in the financial technology and services industry. Prior to joining FTV Capital, Richard was President and CEO of Electronic Payment Services, Inc. Previously, Richard was with Montgomery Securities where he had corporate finance responsibility for the computer services sector. Richard received a BS in Accounting and Finance from Southwest Missouri State University and an MBA from Oklahoma City University.Close

Chris Winship

Board Member
Chris has 12 years of growth equity investing experience. His primary areas of investment focus are in payments and transaction processing, business services and outsourcing, and software. Prior to joining FTV Capital, Chris was an Analyst with Salomon Smith Barney's media and telecommunications group. Prior to Salomon Smith Barney, Chris worked at Putnam Investments in Putnam's sales and marketing divisions. Chris received a BA from Dartmouth College.Close
